How to use Smart Folders in LogPad
Smart Folders are saved filters. They help you organize notes without moving them into rigid folders or deciding where every note belongs before you capture it.
What Smart Folders are good for
- Project notes that share the same tag or search term.
- Notes with attachments, links, tags, or mentions.
- Daily or weekly review views.
- Lists that should update automatically as new notes match the same criteria.
Example Smart Folders
- Work notes: notes tagged with
#work. - Follow up: notes with a follow-up tag, mention, or Show Again date.
- Research links: notes that include URLs or reference material.
- Export candidates: notes tagged for Markdown, PDF, or archive workflows.
How to design a Smart Folder
- Start with one real question, such as "What notes do I need for this project?"
- Choose the smallest useful rule: a tag, a phrase, a date range, or an attachment filter.
- Name the Smart Folder after the workflow, not the filter mechanics.
- Review the results and adjust the rule if it collects too much or too little.
Smart Folders vs tags
Tags mark individual notes. Smart Folders collect notes that match a pattern. Use tags for lightweight structure, then use Smart Folders when you want LogPad to keep a living view updated.
